Production and characterization of bioglass and glass-ceramics that can be used in artificial bone applications, hydroxyapatite (HA) and HA composites for bone cement materials, in-vitro bioactivity characterization of these materials, and determination of glass compositions for energy field are some of the examples of the research activities.

Facilities for materials characterization include state-of-the-art field emission gun scanning electron microscope, fully computer controlled with EDS, WDS and EBSD attachments, X-ray diffractometer and X-ray fluoresans spectrometer for qualitative and quantitative analyses, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) for molecular bonding characterization, BET surface area measurement device, pore size analyzer, hot stage optical and stereo microscopes, simultaneous thermal analysis (TG-DTA/DSC), spectrophotometer, Vickers hardness measurement equipment, color fastness and refractive index measurement device, and sample preparation equipments; gold and carbon coating system, cold and hot moulding equipment, mixer, and manual polishing equipment.
